SPORT NEWS: NFL Scouts Reportedly Doubt Shedeur Sanders’ First-Round Potential, Insider Reveals Harsh Assessment.giang

Shedeur Sanders has emerged as one of the most intriguing prospects in the upcoming NFL Draft, with many touting him as a potential No. 1 overall pick. However, not everyone in the scouting community shares the same level of enthusiasm for the Colorado quarterback, with some insiders expressing doubts about his readiness to step into a franchise role immediately.

Sanders, the son of Hall of Famer and Colorado head coach Deion Sanders, has put together an exceptional collegiate career. Splitting his time between Jackson State and Colorado, he has amassed 14,119 passing yards and 132 touchdowns, showcasing elite accuracy and poise under pressure.

This past season, Sanders completed 74 percent of his passes, racking up 4,134 yards and 37 touchdowns through the air. Despite his impressive stats, some in the NFL remain unconvinced about his first-round potential.

Mixed Opinions Among Scouts

NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero recently weighed in on The Rich Eisen Show, revealing a split opinion on Sanders within league circles.

“Shedeur is a fascinating overall evaluation,” Pelissero said. “While he certainly has fans and comes in with a high profile, the idea that he’s just going to walk in and be the No. 1 pick is probably pushing it. There are teams that don’t have anything close to a first-round grade on him.”

Pelissero added that Sanders’ draft position might ultimately depend on how teams evaluate other top prospects in the 2025 draft class, including Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter, who played alongside Sanders at Colorado as both a wide receiver and cornerback.

“Travis Hunter may be a generational type of player,” Pelissero said. “If you’re looking for someone who checks every box, it’s hard to argue against him as a potential No. 1 pick. As for Shedeur, it’s going to take a team that falls in love with his skill set and is willing to commit to developing him as their franchise quarterback.”

Competition for the No. 1 Spot

While Sanders’ stats and pedigree make him an appealing option, he’s facing stiff competition. Miami quarterback Cam Ward, who also had an outstanding collegiate career, is another contender for the top pick. The draft order will play a crucial role in determining which player goes first overall. Teams like the New York Giants and New England Patriots, both in dire need of young talent, could shape the narrative.

The Patriots currently hold the No. 1 pick according to Tankathon, following a dismal season. With rookie quarterback Drake Maye already on their roster and showing promise, they may lean toward a non-quarterback selection like Hunter. Conversely, teams like the Giants, who have a glaring need at quarterback, might prioritize Sanders if they move up in the draft order.

A Tough End to Sanders’ College Career

Despite his stellar season, Sanders’ college career ended on a disappointing note. In the Alamo Bowl against BYU, he threw two interceptions alongside two touchdowns in a 36-14 loss. While one game doesn’t define a player’s career, it did raise questions about his ability to consistently perform at an elite level against top-tier competition.

The Road Ahead

As the draft process unfolds, Sanders will have opportunities to solidify his case as a top pick. Workouts, interviews, and the NFL Combine will give him a chance to address concerns and showcase his readiness for the next level. While some scouts remain skeptical, Sanders’ talent, combined with his work ethic and leadership, ensures he will remain a compelling prospect in the months leading up to the draft.

For now, the debate over Sanders’ draft position highlights the complexity of evaluating quarterbacks and the unpredictable nature of the NFL Draft.

Whether he’s the first name called in April or not, Shedeur Sanders has already proven he belongs in the conversation among the game’s brightest future stars.
