Ryan Reynolds urged to step in amid Wrexham fan backlash over ticket decision.Cau

Wrexham has come under fire for a ticketing move that’s got fans fuming about post-holiday expenses.

The League One club used to sell tickets for home games one at a time, letting supporters manage their money more easily. But in a sudden switch-up before the New Year, the Hollywood-owned Reds announced that tickets for the rest of the season’s home games at the Racecourse Ground would be released in groups of three.

The decision by the club, owned by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, has sparked outrage among the faithful, who are now forced to shell out for a trio of matches all at once. The first set of tickets for pivotal clashes against Birmingham City, Stevenage, and Leyton Orient hit the market yesterday.

With individual tickets for the temporary Kop stand going for £22 ($27) for adults and £8 ($10) or £11 ($14) for kids depending on age, a family of four could be looking at a bill of £180 ($223) to £198 ($246) to catch all three fixtures. Disgruntled fans have taken to X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, to vent their displeasure.

Among them, Gav Lea blasted: “Another own goal by the club here. This is a crazy decision straight after Christmas for fans who may have to budget for tickets.”

Scott Shore expressed his disbelief and frustration, saying: “Is this April Fools’ Day? Me and the daughter have been every home match since she started getting into football and now it’s going to cost me £100 near enough in one go with two days’ notice. Got one very disappointed little girl now as we have to choose what games we can go to.”

In a similar vein, Neil Hayes commented: “Can I just say there needs to be a sense check on decisions like this – maybe ask local employees what they think. Putting so many tickets on sale on the same day and so soon after Christmas doesn’t work for most working class fans and is pretty obvious for me as being wrong.”

The club recently faced criticism over a £10 charge for fan zone access at the Racecourse Ground, which was dropped after fans voted with their feet, leading to visibly empty seats during a game against Cambridge United. This game was notably attended by Wrexham co-owner Ryan Reynolds and actor Channing Tatum.

Now, supporters are urging the celebrity owners to intervene swiftly in the latest ticketing fiasco, with one fan pleading on a forum: “I seriously hope Ryan and Rob see these messages and don’t wait months like the fan zone to change this decision.”

“Even from a business decision, this is nuts. When it comes to tickets and still no loyalty scheme, someone clearly doesn’t have a clue of the feelings of the fanbase.” Wrexham AFC has been contacted for their response.
