Kim Mulkey could not help get emotional when being asked about the New Orleans terror attacks this week, with the LSU head coach admitting she can’t stop thinking about what happened.

In the early hours of New Year’s Day a man was able to drive onto Bourbon Street, killing 10 people and injuring many more before he was shot dead in a shootout with pollice.

The man, who has now been identified, drove a vehicle at high speed into a crowd of pedestrians in New Orleans bustling French Quarter district at 3:15 a.m. Wednesday along Bourbon Street. A large amount of people had been in the area celebrating New Year’s Eve.

The area had been even busier than usual with college football arriving in preparation for the Sugar Bowl, which had to be postponed a day due to safety concerns. It was later confirmed that the driver was killed in a shootout with police, being named as Shamsud Din-Jabbar.

Mulkey and her team at LSU, just 30 minutes away from New Orleans in Baton Rouge, has spoken for the first time since the incident. And she admitted she’s struggling to deal with what had happened.

“A lot of people’s children and families, I cannot imagine how they feel,” Mulkey said. “I went back home to my state of Louisiana to be a positive., and you just wish you could do something. I can’t quit thinking about it to be honest. I can’t quit thinking about it.

“It’s so close to home, it just smacks you right in the face. I just cannot imagine those families right now and what they are having to deal with. You just pray that somehow, someway, they can deal with it and continue to live on with their lives.”

LSU was able to put in a huge performance in Arkansas, dominating their opponents to a 34-point win with Flau’jae Johnson continuing to star.

In its fourth-biggest regular-season win over an SEC opponent while Mulkey has been head coach, being up 49 points at one point in the game, with the Tigers looking to be legitimate contenders once again this year.
