Cincinnati Bengals star Joe Burrow has admitted that he is not confident that he will be named as the NFL’s MVP this year – despite peers including Micah Parsons tipping him for the prize.
In his most recent outing, the quarterback proved pivotal in the Bengals’ 30-24 victory over the Denver Broncos, as he completed 39 out of 49 passes for 412 yards and three touchdowns on the night. With just over a minute remaining on the clock in overtime he threw a three-yard touchdown pass to Tee Higgins to secure the win.
The 28-year-old has thrown for 4,641 yards and 42 touchdowns during a stellar campaign, prompting calls for him to be crowned the NFL MVP for this term. As a result of his heroics, the aforementioned Parsons is among those clamoring for him to land the illustrious individual honor.
Taking to X, the Dallas Cowboys linebacker revealed that he is backing Burrow to be named MVP – if he is able to get his team over the line in terms of securing a playoff berth. He said: “If Joe burrow takes this team to the playoffs I dont even think it should be in question whos MVP!! God damm! Best in the world rn!”
However, with the Bengals’ postseason chances currently in the balance, it remains to be seen whether Burrow may miss out on account of his team’s collective performance in 2024. As it stands, Cincinnati occupies third position in the AFC North standings – as they trail the Baltimore Ravens and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Now, Burrow has admitted that the MVP prize may be destined to head elsewhere this year, as he said: “I think I will win the MVP award someday, but not this year. I doubt it. Usually you gotta win your division, it is what it is. Thats how its voted. I dont necessarily disagree with it, I would say.”
Either way, the quarterback is expected to be in the running for the Comeback Player of the Year award as he bids to win that honor for a second time in his career. He said of the prospect: “That one I would be proud of. It’s not exactly an award you want to be up for. But if you’re up for it, you might as well try to win it.”
Meanwhile, Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen is expected to be among the front runners when it comes to the NFL MVP award this year. Having hit 40 touchdowns for a fifth consecutive year, he has helped his team to reach the playoffs during a memorable individual campaign..
Bills head coach Sean McDermott is among those convinced of his player’s credentials for the MVP prize. He asserted: “Josh Allen continues to show why he should be the MVP. And it’s great to see our offense do what they’ve been able to do here.
“I’ve been around this league long enough to know to see MVP every year for many years. And what he has done on this team and this organization in this community — and no offense to anybody else — but I’ve got a hard time believing that someone’s done more. I really believe that.”
