Caitlin Clark has admitted that she gets more irritated playing golf than she does basketball.
The 22-year-old WNBA Rookie of the Year enjoyed an incredible debut season with Indiana Fever in 2024, smashing a number of league records while guiding her side to its first playoff run since 2016. However, rather than honing her skills ahead of the 2025 campaign, Clark spent the off-season honing in on her capabilities in the world of golf.
The youngster took part in the ANNIKA Pro-Am at Belleair’s Pelican Golf Club in November, teaming up with golfing great Annika Sorenstam. And in a recent chat on New Heights with Travis and Jason Kelce, Clark delved into how much the sport gets under her skin when she’s underperforming.

When asked what she’s more competitive playing, Clark explained: “That’s hard. I think like golf makes me more mad because I’m not as good at it. I’m just like the average hack and you want to be good. You’re competitive, just like basketball or football. Like, ‘Why am I not good at this?’. And it’s an individual sport, and we’re used to team sports – so I think that’s what p—es me off too.
“It’s like it’s all on me and I know it’s all my fault, so.” When asked if she’s more nervous at the free-throw line or on the first tee by Travis, Clark didn’t blink before responding: “First tee, not even close. I’m like shaking, I can’t put my ball on the tee. Can’t get it to stay on the tee, you’re shaking so bad trying to put the tee in the ground.
“I mean you’re average at golf, at least you’re confident in the actual sport you play, you know?” Elsewhere on the podcast, Clark was asked about the moment in which she hit a fan with one of her tee shots at the ANNIKA. Jason asked: “You recently played in a Pro-Am with Annika Sorenstam. You hit a person on a tee box, I don’t know how you do that. Who would hit a person on a tee box?”
Clark chuckled before explaining: “The video that was going viral where I completely topped it – so it’s crazy. We’re playing like these long par threes that are like 200 yards, and I’m not good enough to hit a par three like 200 yards. So I whip out my hybrid, I’m teeing up my hybrid club.
“Just topped it, like straight at the fans to the left – but I think they dodged it.” However, Clark then admitted that another fan wasn’t so lucky in evading a different tee shot that went awry. She recounted: “But I nailed somebody on a different par three, like some woman right in the shoulder. I saw a TikTok the next day just like black welt on her arm.”
Clark still has another five months to go before the 2025 WNBA regular season gets underway. The Fever will play host to Chicago Sky in their maiden game of the campaign on May 17 at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Fans will be excited to see how Clark continues to soar on the courts when the WNBA returns, especially under new head coach Stephanie White.
