The Los Angeles premiere of Jennifer Lopez‘s new movie Unstoppable has been canceled due to fire and wind activity in the city on Tuesday, Jan 7.

The event at the DGA Theater has been canceled “in light of today’s safety concerns around heightened wind activity and fire outbreaks in Los Angeles,” a rep for the movie’s distributor, Amazon MGM Studios, said in a statement to PEOPLE.

“As much as we were looking forward to celebrating this wonderful and inspiring film with you, safety is our first priority,” the statement continued. “Thank you for your understanding and please stay safe.”

The Los Angeles National Weather Service warned residents on Monday of a “life-threatening” and “destructive” windstorm set to impact Southern California, bringing significant fire danger along with it.

The cause of the Pacific Palisades fire is under investigation, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. Homes in the foothills of that neighborhood were given evacuation orders on Tuesday morning.

L.A. officials say the fire has grown rapidly in just a few hours, to nearly 800 acres as of 2:20 p.m. local time. More than 250 L.A. firefighters have responded to the ongoing emergency.

Unstoppable, from director William Goldenberg and producers Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, tells the real-life story of wrestler Anthony Robles, who was born with one leg and is played by Jharrel Jerome in the film. Following its Toronto International Film Festival premiere in September, the sports biopic had a limited theatrical release on Dec. 6, and will begin streaming on Prime Video on Jan. 16.

Costars Don Cheadle, Michael Peña and Mykelti Williamson were also expected to attend the Tuesday red carpet event. Jerome, 27, and Lopez, 55, who plays Robles’ mother Judy, last promoted Unstoppable at a Los Angeles screening on Dec. 15.

Lopez kicked off the year with a red carpet debut at the Palm Springs International Film Festival on Saturday, Jan. 4, when she was honored with one of Variety‘s Creative Impact Awards.
