Giants blockbuster trade pitch lands franchise quarterback in NFL Draft image

What the New York Giants do this offseason is a mystery, but the consensus is that they will search hard for a long-term option at the quarterback position.

After benching and then cutting ties with Daniel Jones midway through the 2024 season, the Giants currently only have one quarterback under contract — Tommy DeVito.

While there are some options to consider via free agency and the trade market, the Giants are likely hoping they will get a shot at drafting their quarterback of the future with the No. 3 overall pick.

However, in a recent mock draft prediction from Connor Hughes of SNY, the Giants made a big trade with the Cleveland Browns to move up to the No. 2 spot in order to grab Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders.

“There is a chance this pick isn’t even for sale. The Browns announced the day after their season ended that there was a setback with Deshaun Watson’s Achilles. His status for next season is up in the air. If that’s the case, they might sit here and take Sanders themselves. The Giants’ offer, though, is too good to pass up,” Hughes wrote. “New York sends Cleveland No. 3 and a third-round pick this draft, then their first-round pick next year.”

That is quite the haul from the Giants but if Sanders winds up being the fixture under center for the next 10 years, it would have been worth it.

It will be interesting to see how the draft process plays out for Sanders. The name value he brings along with the media barrage that will come with his father, Deion, will make him a polarizing figure throughout the months leading up to the draft.

According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, there are some major questions as to what kind of grade Sanders will get from teams across the league.

“I’ve already talked to people within the league who don’t have anything close to a first-round grade on the guy,” Pelissero said on the Rich Eisen Show.

Where the Giants will fall in terms of their grade on Sanders may never be revealed, and the interview process will be huge for the 22-year-old.

Either way, the Giants may need to make a splash move on draft night if they want to secure one of the top quarterbacks.
