The 2025 Cotton Bowl Classic between Ohio State and Texas will take place as scheduled Friday despite winter weather forecast for Arlington, Texas.

The Cotton Bowl and AT&T Stadium announced Tuesday night the plan to go ahead with the game.

“Should the forecast shift, we are prepared for all contingencies,” the venue and event wrote in the statement.

Ohio State and Texas will be playing Friday with a trip to the national championship game on the line. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET.

Arlington recently announced the city would be under a Winter Storm Warning beginning early Thursday and ending midday Friday.

A Wednesday morning forecast shared by the National Weather Service Fort Worth noted that “portions of central Texas will likely see just a cold rain.”

The statement said that the highways around AT&T Stadium are “already being brined” in anticipation of the weather event.

Yahoo Sports’ Ross Dellenger reported Tuesday that Cotton Bowl officials “met with emergency management, law enforcement, CFP leaders and meteorologists” while planning for the winter weather.

Dellenger also noted that there had been “little to no serious discussion about postponing the game” as of Tuesday.

By kickoff, Ohio State and Texas will already know which team they’re looking to take on for the national title.

Penn State and Notre Dame arrived on Tuesday in Miami in anticipation of Thursday’s Orange Bowl, which will determine the other team heading to the championship game on Jan. 20.

Atlanta, the site of the final, is also bracing for a winter storm this weekend. The organizers of the College Football Playoff will hope for a clear forecast by the time the Cotton Bowl and Orange Bowl winners travel to Georgia.
