Josh Allen will play in the Buffalo Bills’ final game of the regular season despite the team having nothing to play for, while Patrick Mahomes will not play for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Both the Chiefs and Bills have the number one and two seeds already locked up heading into their week 18 games, with Mahomes not playing – set to have two weeks off while Kansas City will have a first-round bye.

However, Allen will play in the playoffs next weekend and will seemingly risk injury to play for his team in their final game of the regular season, set to suit up against the New England Patriots and continue with his streak of playing in 114 games consecutively.

Speaking on the decision to play in the game, Allen spoke of his consecutive streak while stating: “Its something that means a lot to me. Just making sure that Im available, playing through things throughout the years.. Glad I get to start.”

The decision for Allen to start does look to be curious one, with the Bills having very little to gain by playing their superstar quarterback while risking injury. It remains to be seen how long he’ll play in the game for, with Buffalo potentially set for a brutal first-round playoff match up with Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals should they win in the final week of the season and other results go their way.

Allen and Mahomes could meet up in the postseason once again, as they seemingly do every year now, with the latter set to be much fresher heading into a potential matchup.

However, Kansas City does risk Mahomes starting his first game back in shaky fashion, which has tended to be the case when players have had an extended rest period ahead of the postseason.

Carson Wentz looks set to start for the Chiefs for the first time after the former second overall pick signed up to be Mahomes’ backup this season.
