Tuesday’s Cheez-It Citrus Bowl clash between South Carolina and Illinois turned heated when a sideline altercation between head coaches Shane Beamer and Bret Bielema stole the spotlight. The incident unfolded late in the third quarter with Illinois holding a narrow 14-10 lead over South Carolina at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida.
The Gamecocks were driving deep into Illinois territory when quarterback LaNorris Sellers rushed for six yards to the Illinois 14-yard line. During the play, Illini cornerback Jaheim Clarke sustained an injury while tackling Sellers. As medical staff attended to Clarke on the field, Illinois head coach Bret Bielema took the opportunity to make his way toward the action—but not just to check on his injured player.
Bielema, in a brazen move, began making substitution motions in the direction of South Carolina’s sideline, seemingly taunting Beamer.
The gestures continued until Beamer noticed, and the South Carolina head coach erupted in frustration. Beamer was seen yelling across the field at Bielema, clearly incensed by the perceived mockery.

However, Illinois responded in kind, marching down the field to retake control of the scoreboard in what was shaping up to be a hard-fought battle.
