Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen has made history by registering 40 or more touchdowns across five consecutive seasons – as his teammates led the calls for him to be named the NFL MVP.
The 28-year-old has been in impressive form once again this season, reaching the milestone in his team’s 40-14 victory over the New York Jets. The star passed for two touchdowns in the third quarter of proceedings, while rushing for another as he demonstrated his brilliance at Highmark Stadium.
Ending the night with 182 yards on 16-for-27 passing, his display solidified the belief among his colleagues that he has been the best player in the league this season. Previous to this campaign, Allen tallied up 40 total touchdowns in 2023, alongside 42 touchdowns in 2022.

Before this, star contributed 42 touchdowns in 2021, while scoring 45 touchdowns in 2020. With only Aaron Rodgers having scored in excess of 40 touchdowns in more than five straight seasons, the historic significance of Allen’s achievements was not lost on his employers, who took to Instagram to post a graphic marking his achievement alongside the caption: “Josh Allen writing NFL history.”
Following another virtuoso display from the quarterback against the Jets, head coach Sean McDermott expressed his belief that the player should be named the MVP this year. He said: “Josh Allen continues to show why he should be the MVP,” McDermott said. “And it’s great to see our offense do what they’ve been able to do here.
“I’ve been around this league long enough to know to see MVP every year for many years. And what he has done on this team and this organization in this community — and no offense to anybody else — but I’ve got a hard time believing that someone’s done more. I really believe that.”
The coach’s views were shared by Allen’s teammates too, who got behind the QB as they backed him to be named the MVP as they waxed lyrical about his contributions on the field. Right tackle Spencer Brown asserted: “I don’t know what more else he could do.
“That’s consistency … he does it with anybody that he gets his hands on. I mean, it’s pretty clear-cut for me. And then now people are saying, ‘Oh, it’s a Charles Barkley MVP.’ I’m like, ‘Ah, he’s the only player to ever do that.’ … It’s not up to me. I don’t vote. But 17 is the MVP for sure.”
Meanwhile, defensive end Von Miller contended: “I don’t like to make comparisons; I played with Peyton Manning and Matthew Stafford. Those guys are special in their own right. But this year, Josh is just doing something totally different and he’s not forcing it, he’s not trying too hard, he’s not looking for it, it’s just him.”
In addition, wide receiver Amari Cooper hailed Allen after he was serenaded by the crowd during the clash with the Jets, adding: “To hear the ‘MVP’ chants, he definitely deserves it for sure. He’s been putting it together. I think he put a stamp on it today.”
