NFL fans are blaming Taylor Swift for hijacking the Pro Bowl with Travis Kelce having the most votes in the entire NFL despite having the worst season of his career.
Kelce has career-low’s in yards, yards per reception and touchdowns this season while being set to be short of the 1,000 yard mark for just the fourth time in his career. However, he has leads the NFL in votes for the Pro Bowl, where fans vote for the best player of the season.
Of course, Kelce has become a much bigger name away from football due to his high-profile relationship with Swift, with the pop superstar regularly attending games and grabbing headlines.
Kelce has seen his stardom rise exponentially, arguably being the most popular player in the sport… as shown by the Pro Bowl votes.
But with the system there for fans to vote on which player has been the most productive and deserving of making the roster, it’s tough to argue that Kelce should even be considered at this point.
Fellow AFC tight end Brock Bowers has had a much more productive season, with 1,114 yards as a rookie. Meanwhile, both Trey McBride and George Kittle also have over 200 more yards than Kelce… but it’s the latter who sits atop of the voting.
Players receive hefty bonuses for making the Pro Bowl, while also using it to gain more money when it comes to contractual discussions. Therefore, fans have been anrgy to see the Chiefs tight end is sitting at the top spot, above the likes of MVP candidates Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson and Saquon Barkley.
One wrote: “Kelce at number one.. I wonder why that is,” while another said: “Kelce has no business even being at the pro bowl this year. Tell the swifties to chill out on the voting.” A Taylor Swift fan page had also responded by writing: “Lets go 87!”
Swift could now feature at further games this season with the Chiefs set to be in a great spot heading into the playoffs, winning the number one seed and meaning they’ll have a first-round bye, while playing their playoff games at home before the Super Bowl.
The pop singer has now finished her worldwide Era’s tour, and will almost certainly be in attendance to see Kelce in action in the second-round of the playoffs,
