“I would say in my experience of interviewing with different owners for head coaching positions, the subject very seldom relates to football,” Belichick revealed, as transcribed by ProFootballTalk. “It’s about a lot of other things besides football. The only interview I’ve ever had with an owner that was a football conversation really was Al Davis. He interviewed me in depth about everything football—personnel, coaching schemes, staff, practice techniques, fundamentals, scouting, you name it.”
Belichick, known for his laser focus on the Xs and Os, seemed to lament the broader scope of questions often asked in head coaching interviews. While he acknowledged that topics beyond football are part of the hiring process, his tone suggested frustration with the lack of football-specific dialogue.
